JULY 2003
CAPITAL
BUILDING PROJECT
..CONNIE BOYLE,
PRESIDENT
HOLDING BOARD
Thanks to all of you who were able to tour the
building on Friday, June 13th.
I think that most of the people came
away with a sense of the beauty and size of
our new facility and what we will eventually
have. We
are striving for a facility that will do all
of us proud and that will last the test of
time.
It has been a month of fairly hectic activity.
The pro shop and the pool are now
open. Although
both had minor delays the end result was
well worth the wait.
We still have a few things to do in
both areas but the early returns indicate
that everyone likes the new facilities.
Most of the exterior work on the clubhouse has
been completed.
We still have some grading, seeding,
paving, etc to do around the outside of the
clubhouse and a new putting green to be
built and seeded. The work on the north end of the building (the side where the
pool is), will continue as needed.
The work on the south side of the
building cant be completed until we tear
down the existing clubhouse.
The demolition is scheduled for early
October.
But, there is plenty to do inside.
We have all the wallboard installed
and most of it is taped.
The remaining taping will be finished
very soon.
The first coat of paint has been
applied to the banquet area. Some of the trim has been installed and painted.
The bar for the banquet area is under
construction.
All in all, the banquet room is
looking very good and will be ready for use
on schedule.
That schedule is still the first week
of September for opening the new clubhouse.
The taping of the walls in the members bar area
will be finished shortly.
As soon as that is done the area will
be painted and the trim installed. The construction of the members bar will be started as soon
as the bar for the banquet room is finished.
During the next two months we have to finish the
public bathrooms with paint, tile, floors
and counters, create workstations for the
waitresses, finish floors in both the
members and banquet areas and finish all the
work in the downstairs locker rooms and
gathering areas.
And, we have to complete the pro
shop.
As you can see there is still much to be done.
The construction crews are working to
meet our deadline for the first week of
September and everything looks as though
this is a realistic date.
Our new clubhouse is unique in
western Massachusetts and probably in the
state.
We have received many encouraging
comments from our members, visiting golfers,
and the general population of the
Berkshires.
If
you would like to see pictures of the
clubhouse and pool and get a sense for the
project please go to our website, berkshirehillscc.tripod.com.
There
is a complete set of pictures showing the
new clubhouse and we will continually update
the website as warranted.
We have been updating the website
with new pictures every few days.
